Jasmine B. Johnson was born on August 20, 1985, in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in a family where education was highly valued, and her parents encouraged her to pursue her dreams. From a young age, Jasmine demonstrated a passion for technology and science.
She attended Whitney Young Magnet High School, a prestigious college preparatory school known for its rigorous curriculum and focus on STEM education. During her time at Whitney Young, Jasmine excelled in mathematics and science courses, solidifying her interest in technology.
After graduating from high school, Jasmine enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in computer science. She continued to excel academically, earning a perfect GPA and graduating summa cum laude in 2007.
Upon graduating from college, Jasmine began her career as a software engineer at Google. During her tenure at Google, she worked on various projects that had a significant impact on the company's products and services. In 2011, Jasmine was promoted to Senior Software Engineer, a testament to her hard work and technical expertise.
In 2013, Jasmine joined Facebook as a Technical Program Manager. In this role, she was responsible for leading teams of engineers and product managers to develop and launch new features for Facebook's platform. Under her guidance, Facebook introduced several innovative products that enhanced the user experience, including Messenger Day and Live Video.
In 2019, Jasmine was appointed as Vice President of Engineering at Pinterest. In this role, she oversaw the company's engineering organization and played a pivotal role in Pinterest's growth and evolution. Under her leadership, Pinterest expanded its platform with new features such as Shop the Look and Lens.
Throughout her career, Jasmine has emerged as not only a highly skilled technologist but also a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. She co-founded #BlackWomenInTech, a non-profit organization that aims to empower and connect Black women in technology.
Jasmine is also a vocal advocate for STEM education for underrepresented groups. She has partnered with organizations such as Girls Who Code and Code.org to inspire and mentor young people from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in technology.
